Summer Art Camp for ages 7-14

This summer, children will have a chance to learn the styles and techniques of such famous artists as Pablo Picasso’s Cubism, Salvador Dali’s Surrealism, George Braque’s collage and Andy Warhol’s Pop Art printmaking during “Art with the Masters” summer camp.

The camp is designed for children ages 7-14, from 9-11 a.m. Mondays-Fridays in three summer camp sessions: from June 12-16, June 19-23 and July 10-14 at the Center for Creative Arts located next to the SoBA gallery on Church Street in Old Town Bluffton.

The cost is $100 per child per week. Registration is limited to 14 students per session. Parents are asked to not send their children with a lunch; drinks only. Supplies will be provided.

The instructor is artist Patricia Diemand, who started her quest to become an artist at a young age, being guided by her desire and natural ability.  She has her  Bachelor’s Degree in Art from Marywood University, Scranton, PA and a Master’s in Art Education from Southern Conn. State University in New Haven, CT. Additionally, Diemand studied at the Art League School in Alexandria, VA and was a member of the WA Project for the Arts/Corcoran in Washington, DC.  While living in Buffalo, NY, she was a member of the Western New York Artists’ Group.  She has exhibited in New York, MD and PA and has been represented by the J. Cooper Gallery in Shepherdstown, WV and Monsoon Gallery, Bethlehem, PA.  Diemand had taught Art in the public schools of CT and PA before retiring to South Carolina in 2015.

The summer camp’s schedule is as follows:

Session I: June 12 – June 16

  • Monday, June 12: Louise Nevelson (assemblage) 3-D sculpture using found objects.
  • Tuesday, June 13: Pablo Picasso (Cubism) portrait or still life.
  • Wednesday, June 14: Salvador Dali (Surrealism) dream like painting.
  • Thursday, June 15: Alexander Calder (stabile or mobile) featuring balance and motion.
  • Friday, June 16: Andy Warhol (Pop Art) printmaking

Session II: June 19 – June 23

  • Monday, June 19: Henry Moore (sculpture) a 2-day project of creating a sculpture with holes.
  • Tuesday, June 20: Complete Henry Moore project.
  • Wednesday, June 21: Andrew Wyeth (drawing) perspective and detail drawing activity.
  • Thursday, June 22:George Braque (collage) create a 2-D collage with papers, fabric, and string.
  • Friday, June 23: Paul Klee – abstract composition stressing movement.

Session III: July 10 – July 14

  • Monday, July 10: Paul Gaugain – Tahitian landscapes using chalk on dark paper.
  • Tuesday, July 11:Joan Miro – whimsical pen & ink drawings.
  • Wednesday, July 12: Frank Stella – abstract pictures using a protractor.
  • Thursday, July 13: Monoprints featuring the styles of Picasso, Miro, Warhol.
  • Friday, July 14: Edgar Degas – grid drawing of the figure.
