Betty Hintz Memorial
The children of Betty Hintz would like to thank all those generous people who gave donations to the Children’s Art Program in memory of our mother. Art was one of the most important and enjoyable aspects of our mom’s life, and giving children the opportunity to learn the joys of creating will please her no end. I am sorry that I cannot write each of you a personal note of thanks, as I do not have all your names and addresses, but if I could, I would. Thank you so very much. — Tina Hintz

Norma Deal Presents “From Folk Art to Fine Art”

Norma Deal will present her paintings in a show called “From Folk Art to Fine Art” September 5th through October 1st at the gallery of the Society of Bluffton Artists, located at 6 Church Street. Come meet the artist in person at the opening reception from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, September 10th at the gallery.Deal is a self-taught artist whose keen eye for color and composition is evident on canvas and other types of paintings on panels and boards. Deal was born and raised in Newton-Conover, NC. She relocated to East Tennessee, where she took art classes at East Tennessee University.

She finally settled to Hilton Head Island in 1992, when she became interested in capturing the bucolic Lowcountry in her art, but she is still drawn to the mountains and lakes from her North Carolina home. Deal was accepted in the 2013 BIENNALE National Juried exhibition held on Hilton Head Island, where she received 2nd place in the mixed media category.

“It is extremely difficult for me to repeat a painting to capture the original color and technique,” Deal said.

Did You Know?

SoBA has an Experimental Art Group.  We meet the third Wednesday of each month from 7-8 pm in the Center for Creative Arts.

Notecards for Sale!

Artwork by the children from the Society of Bluffton Artists’ (SoBA) Summer Art Camp have been created into a nice keepsake as notecards, which are available for sale at the gallery. The cost is $15 for five notecards. The proceeds benefit SoBA.

“This year’s Summer Art Camp for Kids produced some wonderful art that we wanted to capture and reproduce in notecards,” said Pat Diemand, the Summer Art Camp instructor. “From Paul Gauguin’s Polynesian themes to Pablo Picasso still lifes and the whimsical drawings of Joan Miro, the kids did a fine job of interpreting these and other artists’ styles in creating masterpieces of their own.”
