James earned a BFA in studio painting from Winthrop University in 1998. In 2018, he retired to the low country and has devoted his time painting. He takes a traditional approach to his work, hand crafting his own canvases and panels and mixing his own glazing mediums to build layers of paint for a rich finished work. James creates representational landscapes striving to catch and hold the attention of the viewer through effective use of composition, form, depth to create a particular mood. |
