THE SOCIETY OF BLUFFTON ARTISTS GALLERY welcomes Lynda Potter as our featured artist May 4 – June 6. “Quintessential Bluffton” will showcase Potter’s latest collection of lovely floral and architectural paintings. This body of work captures the beauty of centuries old live oaks, the history of the charming old homes and gardens, and the quaint character of the old town area all wrapped up in a spectacular splash of a colorful exhibit.
Potter paints in water media – watercolor and acrylics with a skillful use of textures and layers, transparent and opaque, creating flowing, loose and often somewhat abstracted compositions. “My goal is to portray my images toward the abstract,” said Potter. “I want it to be loose but still want it to have an understandable focus.” Potter spends a lot of time considering her subjects, staying deeply focused from concept to completion, creating paintings that are totally engaging and compelling.
Potter certainly understands her subject, having lived and painted in Bluffton for over 25 years, and loves it tremendously. Potter was one of the founding members of the Society of Bluffton Artists, and served as its first president from 1994-96. She and several artist pals started the group – meeting in the town hall – holding painting classes (sometimes with nude models!) and having a group showing each month. She can be credited with helping identify Bluffton as an “art destination” encouraging artists, galleries, and art lovers to the area with her example and passion.
Enjoy refreshments, “Quintessential Bluffton” by Lynda Potter, and the work of over 100 other member artists at the opening reception Friday, May 8 from 5 – 7 pm.
