Painting Florals in Oil February 12, 19 and 26 with Dennis Lake

This class will cover initial design, application and color to accomplish at least one picture of a beautiful floral subject. Students should bring photos to sketch and select from. Approaches to handling negative space, using complimentary color combinations and lighting techniques will be covered. Some demos and critiques of your desired style and painting using oils will enable you better understand how to achieve your goals.

Supplies Needed

Bring your own supplies.

Canvas or board 16×20 or larger

Set of oil paints. Suggested colors include: ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, titanium white, viridian, sap green, cad red, cad yellow medium, alizarin crimson, ochre, burnt umber, burnt sienna, payne’s grey, black, and a palette

Brushes: bristle and/or synthetic, #8 or 6 round, #6 flat, Script liner,  and a #4 flat bristle as well as any others (fan,1”flat synthetic are useful) you might have to bring.

Paper towels / THINNER (ODERLESS MINERAL SPIRITS), Pallette

Oil mediums.( linseed based)

Source material (photos, ipad pictures, etc.)

Buy the best products you can afford but if on a budget, plastic plates , old plastic cups, economy brush sets can all get the job done.
