This two day workshop will focus on establishing a daily painting practice.We will explore how to create good design by using thumb nails. Reference photos will be used to establish light and dark patterns of light. From establishing strong compositions , underpainting and texture, you will succeed in finding the essence of your landscape painting by finding beauty in the ordinary. Pastels: No oil pastels, hard pastels. NuPastel (Michaels has a small set), a dark (ex: Blue Violet 244-P or bottle green 298-P) Nu Pastels, a bricht pink, purple and yellow orange
Soft Pastels such as Terry Ludwigs, Senneliers, Great American as examples in a good range from light to middle tones to darks. Terry (R Substrate: 4-6 Mounted preferred, Uart 400 (9×12 preferred) or a single Uart400 grit unmounted sheet adhered to a piece of gatorboard prior to the workshop using repositioning adhesive.
LIQUITEX CLEAR ONLY GESSO. Not white. Small amount in a container, any set of watercolors (warms and cools) and rubbing alcohol (70% or 90% available at drugstores). Small amount of fine pumice gel and clear primer.
SUPPORT: Gatorboard or foamboard (tracing paper or glassine to protect and transport). One piece of tracing paper for outlining thumbnails. 3-5 BIG shapes.
MISC: Drop cloth, foil (to line tray), paper towels (Viva works well), small water spray bottle, baby wipes, a mirror, neutral beige and black drafting or masking tape, #2B pencil, 1 inch old bristle brush, sketch pad, small palette knife
REFERENCE PHOTOS: Fix or six 4×6 color and black and white of the same picture, simple landscape 3-5 big shapes. NO HAWAIIAN SUNSETS! Or iPad with photos.
