SoBA Kids Art Camp 2019
Exploring Drawing, Painting and 3-D
Delve into drawing, painting and 3-D with creative projects that introduce and teach techniques in all three areas.

When: Sessions run from 9-11 a.m. Monday-Friday this June for ages 8 – 12.
Where: SoBA’s Center for Creative Arts, located at 6 Church Street next door to the SoBA Gallery in Old Town Bluffton

Session I: June 10 – 14
Mon. June 10 – Optical Illusions the M.C. Escher Way.
Tues. June 11 – Drawing Basics Using charcoal and pencil, learn to draw what your mind sees without looking at your paper. Learn to draw objects in relation to one another – shadow, highlights and form.
Wed. June 12 – Assemblage. Create and paint a bas relief collage using wood and corrugated cardboard.
Thurs. June 13 –Sandra Silberzweig Drawing. Imitate this artist’s design-ﬁlled portraits in pastel chalk on black paper.
Fri. June 14 – Watercolor Fish Painting. Practice watercolor techniques and combine them in an underwater scene.
Session II: June 17 – 21
Mon. June 17 – Sculpture In The Style of Dale Chihuly. In this 2-day project kids will create colorful faux “blown glass” sculptures that will be on exhibit in the gallery until the end of the week.
Tues. June 18 – Complete sculptures and display in S.o.B.A. gallery.
Wed. June 19 – Wayne Thiebaud Still Life Chalk Confections. Create drawings of cupcakes, layer cakes, ice cream sodas similar to this artist’s style. Learn about light source, tone, value.
Thurs. June 20 – Draw the Other Side Self-Portraits of you and another student.
Fri. June 21 – Painting. Learn about warm and cool color families and create a layered abstract painting with them.
Session III: July 8 – 12
Mon. July 8 – Drawings That Make You Scream! Meet Expressionist painter Edvard Munch and create a drawing in his style based on his famous “Scream” painting.
Tues. July 9 – Plastercraft Masks. In this 2 day project, kids will create and decorate a mask made out of Plastercraft draped over a form.
Wed. July 10 – Paint and decorate masks.
Thurs. July 11 – Satellite Image Drawings. Create an abstract drawing using satellite image impressions on black paper with colored pencil, watercolor and chalk.
Fri. July 12 – Wonderful Watercolor. Learn and practice techniques of watercolor painting building up layers of color to resemble a Georgia O’Keefe ﬂower or cactus look-alike.
