“Love Where You Live”
Oil paintings by Julie Jones
Julie Jones is a proud native of Hilton Head Island and current resident of Bluffton, South Carolina. She is a lover of all things that celebrate the Lowcountry. Jones often paints coastal landscapes, marine life, shore birds and oyster shells. Growing up on the coast combined with a desire to create has inspired vibrant colorful paintings that represent our charming and unique surroundings. Her work is deeply rooted in appreciation for the southern coastal region drawing inspiration from the distinctive beauty and character of the coastal landscape she has known since childhood.
Jones holds degrees in both Studio Fine Arts and Art History from the College of Charleston. In addition to her studio practice, Jones creates commissioned works through a highly personal and collaborative process. She works closely with each client to consider subject matter, palette, style, scale, and future placement – creating paintings that are both uniquely personal and connected to the environments and memories they represent.
Julie prefers to paint with oils for their smooth, blending quality and rich color, but creates in other mediums as well. Her work can be found in hotels, businesses, and private collections throughout the country. At its heart, her work is a celebration of the Lowcountry—a place she does not simply paint, but knows, observes, walks, and continually discovers.
“I am fortunate to love the place I call home and to have the opportunity to capture pieces of the Lowcountry on canvas. While I often explore a variety of subjects, I continually find myself drawn back to the landscape and creatures of this unique environment.
I walk our beaches. I wander Pinckney Island. I collect shells, watch birds, turn over horseshoe crabs, and take in the countless small details that make this place special. I am surrounded by inspiration to paint where I live and what I love.
Every painting began with a grateful feeling, a thoughtful sketch, a generous mess of color, and usually very loud music. For me, there is something almost indescribable about being completely immersed in the act of painting: surrounded by inspiration, color, music, and the desire to create.”
