1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Cash Awards in 7 Categories – Plus Honorable Mentions (In the event of fewer than 6 entries in a category, the number of prizes may be reduced.)
Lowcountry artists are invited to submit their works of art for The Society of Bluffton Artists’ (SOBA) 31st Annual Judged Show. Winners will be awarded first, second and third place cash awards in the following categories:
- Oil
- Acrylic
- Watercolor
- Drawing (Pencil, Colored Pencil, Pastel, Pen/Ink)
- Photography & Digital Art
- Mixed Media and Collage,
- 3-D: Ceramic, Clay, Wood, Resin, Wire, Paper Mache, Stained Glass
Digitally enhanced photography needs to be labelled as such
Artists do not need to be a member of SOBA to enter The 31st Annual Judged Show. Labels for your artwork will be emailed to you after SOBA receives registration and payment. Please make sure that you attach this completed label to your piece before you drop it off.
Rules of Entry:
- Show is open to all artists 18 and older
- Each artist may only enter one piece
- Work must have been completed in the past year and not exhibited in the past twelve (12) months
- Art must be your original work
- Minimum size 12 x 12
- Maximum size 36 x 40 including frame
- Unframed canvas must be at least 1.5″ deep and gallery wrapped
- 2-D art must be wired (no saw tooth hangers)
- Weight limit 12 lbs.
- Framed and glazed art larger than 18×24″ must use plexiglass – not glass.
- All work must be for sale and priced to sell
- SOBA will retain a 35% commission
- SOBA reserves the right to reject work that does not comply with these rules or that is deemed unsuitable for public display
- No advanced drop off art is allowed
- All unsold work must be retrieved at The SOBA Art School on Monday, March 31st between 9:00-11:00am
Judged Show Schedule of Events
- Registration Deadline: February 23, 2025
- Art Drop Off: 9-11 a.m. March 3, 2025, at The SOBA Art School, 8 Church St., Bluffton, SC
- Exhibit: March 3 – March 30, 2025
- Opening Reception & Awards: 4-6 p.m. March 5, 2025
- Art Pick Up: 9-11 a.m. March 31, 2025, at The SOBA Art School, 8 Church St., Bluffton, SC
About the Judge:
Jan Ross
Jan Ross is a passionate watercolor artist with formal training from the Chicago Academy of Art and workshops led by top American watercolorists like Judy Betts, John Salminen, and Mary Whyte. Over 40 years, her award-winning work has been featured in more than 500 exhibitions at Local, Regional, National, and International levels.
Jan holds Signature Memberships in multiple watercolor societies and has earned the highest accolades, including “Member of Excellence” in the Atlanta Artist Center. In 2023, she achieved her goal of exhibiting in all 50 U.S. states.
Her work is part of Converse University’s Permanent Collection and is cherished in private collections worldwide, from Europe to Kirkuk, Iraq.
