32nd Annual Judged Show

Call For Entries

The registration deadline is August 23rd. Registered art drop-off is August 31st 9-11 a.m. at The SOBA Gallery. 7 Church St.. Bluffton, SC

Lowcountry artists are invited to submit their works of art for The Society of Bluffton Artists’ (SOBA) 32nd Annual Judged Show. Winners will be awarded first, second and third place cash awards in the following categories:

  1. Oil,
  2. Acrylic,
  3. Watercolor,
  4. Photography,
  5. Drawing (includes pastel, pencil, ink),
  6. 3-D (wood, sculpture, pottery, stained glass)
  7. Mixed Media

Plus, Best in Show

Digitally enhanced photography needs to be labelled as such

***No AI to be incorporated in any artwork in any category.

Artists do not need to be a member of SOBA to enter The 32nd Annual Judged Show. Labels for your artwork will be emailed to you after SOBA receives registration and payment. Please make sure that you attach this completed label to your piece before you drop it off.

Registration is required by completing a registration form online at Registration at: 32nd Annual Judged Show Registration.

The cost to register: $30 for SOBA members and $75 for non SOBA members. The registration the deadline for dropping off your art is from 9-11 a.m. August 31 at The SOBA Gallery 7 Church St., Bluffton, SC. No entries will be accepted after 11 a.m. 

Judge:

Patrick Reid O’Brien from Charleston, SC. Patrick is a renowned artist celebrated for his classical impressionist Lowcountry paintings. After studying Fine Art at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and spending 15 years in advertising, he left to pursue painting full-time.

His work has been commissioned by Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, the Kentucky Derby, and the White House. Patrick has also been featured in Southern Living, the Los Angeles Times, Dan’s Papers, the Chicago Tribune, the Baltimore Sun, and Chesapeake Home. 

The Judged Show exhibit will be on display from September 1 – Oct 4 at the SOBA gallery. An awards ceremony and reception will take place from September 2, 4-6pm.

These events are free to attend and open to the public.  Artists can pick up unsold artwork at the end of the show from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 5th at the SOBA Gallery.

Rules of Entries

  • The show is open to all artists 18 and older.
  • Each artist may only enter one (1) piece of art.
  • The work must have been completed in the past year and not exhibited in the past twelve (12) months.
  • Art must be original.
  • Minimum size is 12″ x 12″.
  • Maximum size is 36″ x 40″ including frame. (Not to exceed 10 lbs.)
  • Unframed canvas must be at least 1.5″ deep and gallery wrapped.
  • Maximum weight is 10 lbs.
  • 2D art must be wired (no saw tooth hangers).
  • All work must be for sale and priced to sell.
  • SOBA will retain a 35% commission if your piece sells.
  • SOBA reserves the right to reject work that does not comply with these rules or that is deemed unsuitable for public display.
  • Participants are limited to the first 100 applicants.
  • No advanced drop off is allowed.
  • All unsold work must be retrieved at The SOBA Art School from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 5, at The SOBA Art School, 7 Church St., Bluffton, SC
