Have you ever wanted to start oil painting but didn’t know where to begin? In this course, your instructor, Natalia Hicks, will address common questions to help aspiring oil painters understand both the theory and practice of the medium. We will cover the essentials of traditional oil painting, including:
– Choosing the right mediums and materials.
– Simple color mixing to create purposeful palettes.
– Techniques for applying paint of different consistencies.
– learn interesting facts from the history of using oil paints
Natalia will guide you step-by-step through the process of creating two small paintings, “A Very Simple Still Life” which is a study of a lemon and “A Very Simple Landscape,” painting beautiful marsh scene, focusing on creating depth, texture, and light.
Instructor Background
Natalia was trained as a classical oil painter and has ten years of experience working in art museums and nearly twenty years of teaching art. She has a true passion for sharing her knowledge and experience with others.
All materials are included for beginners. Natalia will send you the supply list but do not rush to buy the paints and brushes until you fall in love with oils!
This course can serve as a standalone introduction to oils or as a foundation for subsequent courses.
