Summer Art Exhibition at Fair Winds Restaurant Featuring Works by Founding Member Betty Hintz

The Society of Bluffton Artists (SOBA) launched a new summer art exhibition at Fair Winds Bar & Grill in Rose Hill Plantation in Bluffton, SC, with artwork remaining on display through August 31.

The seasonal exhibition will feature a rotating collection of artwork by SOBA artists, along with a special exhibit honoring the late Betty Thorpe Hintz, one of SOBA’s seven founding members and a longtime resident of Rose Hill Plantation.

Located inside the Rose Hill golf clubhouse, Fair Winds Bar & Grill is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday for lunch, brunch, dinner, drinks, live music, open mic nights, and seasonal events. All artwork displayed in the exhibition will be available for purchase onsite.

Hintz, who lived in Rose Hill for many years, played an important role in the Lowcountry arts community for more than two decades. She moved to Bluffton in 1986 after spending 33 years living overseas, and her work was influenced by both the Lowcountry landscape and her travels throughout Indonesia, the Philippines, South Africa, Singapore, Bali, France, and Italy.

“This exhibit feels especially meaningful because of Betty’s deep connection to both SOBA and Rose Hill,” said Gloria Owens, SOBA Marketing & Tech Team member and Rose Hill Satellite Gallery Manager. “Her family still lives in the community, and we’re honored to share her artwork in a place that was such an important part of her life.”

In a full-circle gesture, Hintz’s family donated the featured artwork to SOBA, with proceeds from sales supporting the organization’s mission to help visual arts thrive in Bluffton.

Founded in 1991, SOBA is a nonprofit visual arts organization dedicated to supporting local artists and expanding access to the arts throughout the Lowcountry through exhibitions, education, and community programming.
