In this three-hour watercolor workshop, students will paint a graceful shorebird searching along the beach. Marie will guide students step-by-step through creating the bird’s delicate form, soft feather patterns, slender legs, and expressive details.
Students will learn how to use light washes, layering, negative painting, and controlled brushwork to create the subtle variations of color and texture found in a shorebird’s feathers. Special attention will be given to preserving the white of the paper and using small, intentional marks to suggest feather patterns without overworking the painting. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore painting birds in watercolor while keeping the process loose, simple, and enjoyable.
