“My current art reflects what moves & inspires me here in the Low Country working in various mediums and styles.  I love all things beautiful- form, color & emotion & all the qualities that make something worth remembering & replicating.”

Art has always been a part of who I am — it’s how I see the world, how I live, and how I connect with others. Some of my earliest memories are of drawing life-sized figures in chalk on the pavement, a passion that led to my first solo art show in fifth grade and has never left me since.

I earned several art scholarships and attended multiple schools before completing a BFA in Graphic Design and a MALS with a focus on art and education. My creative journey has taken many forms over the years — from sign painting and working as a graphic artist, to managing a gallery in the Hamptons.

On Long Island, I founded an art studio where I exhibited work by local artists, taught classes, and even hosted children’s birthday parties — a joyful blend of creativity and community. I’ve taught art at nearly every level — privately, publicly, and in therapeutic settings including group homes, where art provided healing and connection. One of my most meaningful projects was helping to develop and teach an art program for the National Council of Unity, bringing art to inner-city high school students who had never had the opportunity to explore their creativity.

Today, I continue to teach and exhibit my work, both at SOBA Gallery and in Sun City. After many years on Long Island and a chapter in Kansas, I’m now settled in the Lowcountry with my husband — a fellow artist I’ve known since childhood. Together, we spend our days making art, finding beauty, and living creatively.

Marie Camenares – June

“The landscapes of the Lowcountry hold a quiet magic—where golden marshes stretch to the horizon, tidal creeks reflect the ever-changing sky, and the salt air whispers through the grasses. My paintings, in both pastel and watercolor, aim to capture the essence of this place: its shifting light, its depth of color, and its sense of peace. Through soft layers and luminous
washes, I invite viewers to step into these moments of tranquility and see the Lowcountry as I do—a place of beauty, movement, and reflection.”

Jan Urbanic – July

I love the vibrancy of pastels creating beautiful landscapes and still life and I love working with watercolors lending itself to a unique luminosity.

Nancy Huson – August

My first art class was when I was 9 years old. I minored in art at Colgate University. I have studied under Harry Fredman and Joyce Greer for Portraiture. In addition, I have studied under Carol Douglas and Greg Barnes for plein aire landscapes. I paint primarily in oils and enjoy many different subject matters. My style varies from realism to impressionism.

Carol Iglesias – September

A Plein Air Impressionist, Carol was awarded a prestigious Artist Residency at “Les Amis de la Grande Vigne” in Dinan, France, the former home and studio of famous French artist Yvonne Jean-Haffen. Her painting was selected for the Museum’s collection and was on exhibition in France during 2013 and 2019. Carol is a member of American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, Pastel Society of America and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. Her paintings are in collections throughout the U.S. as well as five other countries.

Karen Magill – October

Karen was born and lived in the Cleveland Ohio area and moved to Bluffton in 2020. Following a corporate career in the food industry, while raising six sons and a daughter with her husband Doug, Karen now focuses on her love of art and paints in several mediums. Her work can be seen at SOBA, Coastal Exchange, Alexander’s restaurant and Signature Gallery in Savannah.

Karen loves to paint Plein Air (outside) to capture the local landscape as well as the beauty of places she’s traveled.
