Cheryl Arnold

Cheryl was born in Philadelphia and attended University of Colorado. She then moved to New Hampshire where she got her BFA in Art and her Masters from Rivier College and Plymouth University. She moved to Hilton Head in 2006 where she taught middle school. She has 27 years of teaching experience. “My art and photography reflects realism and rhythmic compositions of abstract in various stages of color and value. Previously, I taught photography and have recently begun experiencing the wonders of nature and beauty in the low country, with elements of surprise, for myself and the viewer”.

Mary Burrell

Mary Burrell was the first-place finisher in SOBA’s 26th Annual Judged Show. Her artwork — with its distinctive textures, shading and detail — has been exhibited in restaurants, libraries, galleries, public offices and boutiques.Mary lived in New York until August 2017, when she moved to Bluffton with her husband, Mark. She is a founding member of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Women Artists, and serves on the SOBA Board of Directors as the Membership Chair. Mary also teaches children’s classes at SOBA and gives private lessons.

Marie Camenares

I love the vibrancy of pastels creating beautiful landscapes and still life and I love working with watercolors lending itself to a unique luminosity allow me the most flexibility to express my inner feelings. I give all my work depth, texture and movement by using numerous application techniques.

Lori Clancy

My Paintings are spontaneous, intuitive and from the heart. I paint to express myself using a unique style that is both pleasing to the eye and calming to the mind. Each painting takes me on a new journey from an idea, to the first stroke, and eventually to the finished piece. I love working with acrylics on canvas as they allow me the most flexibility to express my inner feelings. I give all my work depth, texture and movement by using numerous application techniques.

Rose Cofield

A passion for exploring the possibilities of form and shape is the motivation driving the creation of my pieces. Working with different and challenging materials teaches me to bend to the inherent attributes as well as the limitations of my chosen medium. It has led me on a journey that never ceases to amaze and captivate me! I am currently working in Mixed Media/Collage creating abstract work.

Donna P. Cole

Donna Cole placed first in SOBA’s 25th Annual Judged Show in watercolor. She also earned an honorable mention in the 24th Annual Judged show. Donna specializes in photo realism and enjoys experimenting with various unusual techniques and effects. Her unique style has drawn the attention from private collectors around the country. Moving to the area in 2013, Donna’s interest in the medium began thanks to a Michael Pearson workshop at SOBA. She draws inspiration from local scenery and wildlife, based in part on her own photography.

Sharon Cooper

Inspired by the Impressionist Masters, Sharon works in mosaic glass to reflect the wonders of nature. Mosaic glass is a contemporary version of traditional leaded stained glass which creates translucent images that reflect the light, and sparks your imagination. Sharon was born and educated in the Philadelphia area and worked as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist most for her career. She has been creating glass art for the past 5 years. Studio 44 is her new workspace located in Beaufort South Carolina.

Pat Diemand

Pat Diemand began her journey as an artist as a young child, guided by her desire and natural ability. She was a member of the Western New York Artists’ Group in Buffalo, NY and the WA Project for the Arts/Corcoran in Washington, DC. Diemand’s work has appeared in a variety of exhibitions over the years, including the Albright Knox Sales/Rental Gallery, Buffalo, New York; the Artful Gifts Exhibition at Art Dialogue Gallery, Buffalo, NY; and the Cumberland Valley Artists’ Exhibition in Hagerstown, Md. Locally, her work can be seen at Alexander’s Restaurant in Palmetto Dunes. She also teaches the Summer Art Camp for kids at SOBA.

Mary Ann Ford

Mary Ann Browning Ford is an award-winning artist, who received “Best In Show” at SOBA’s 25th Annual Judged Show. While growing up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio she attended children’s art classes at The Cleveland Museum of Art and years later, the Cleveland Institute of Art and Western Reserve University. Ford is a member of the National Association of Women Artists, a board member of SOBA and Hilton Head Island Land Trust. Additionally, she’s scenic artist and designer University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Center for the Arts. She also teaches art to seniors at TidePointe and Bayshore assisted senior living communities on Hilton Head Island.

Kim France

Kim France came to the Lowcountry via Raleigh, NC and Cincinnati, OH. When she arrived, she had never held a paint brush. But, the Bluffton and Hilton Head scenes inspired her to try her hand at oil painting. Primarily self taught, Kim has nurtured her desire to improve artistically through workshops at The Center for Creative Arts which is run by SOBA Gallery and is located next door to the gallery. She serves on the board because she values the exposure that SOBA gives to her art and enjoys the camaraderie of the Bluffton Art community.

John Kenney

A Piccalo Spoleto exhibitor. Art allows us to look at the world around us differently. The relationships between shape, line, color and tone come to life and are constantly changed by light. John Kenney’s oil paintings are about the manipulation of light and geometric shapes. The direction and intensity of light controls image and texture. He finds inspiration in the every day. John’s art is an expression of what he sees and feels, whether as an abstraction or as modern expressionism.

Rick Locke

Rick Locke is an award-winning fine art photographer who has exhibited at SOBA since 2017. His images feature vivid colors, striking patterns and textures, and compelling abstracts or reflections. In addition to SOBA, Rick’s work has appeared in exhibits at the Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head. In 2021, one of Rick’s works was selected among the top 100 submissions (out of 735) for inclusion in the Art League of Hilton Head’s Biennale, a national juried art exhibit. Carolyn Mattingly

Carolyn Mattingly has a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. Her graduate degrees are in Administration and Supervision. After retiring from Fulton County Schools in the position of Chief of Staff, she owned Advantage Private Home Care, in GA. Now retired in Bluffton, she focuses on landscape oil painting. She studied under well-known artists in NJ, Roswell and Atlanta, GA. and recently under Dennis Lake, Hilton Head. She is a member of Society of Bluffton Artists and Art League of Hilton Head where she displays her coastal art.

John Meckley

John Meckley won his first juried art show at the age of 17 in Pennsylvania, and has gone on to earn juried show awards in Maryland, Florida and South Carolina. He even had a painting hanging in the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. A self-taught artist, Meckley’s inspiration came from the works of Rembrandt and the Wyeth family artists. He likes to incorporate that style with soft, smooth brush strokes and warm, earthy tones. In 2019, Meckley moved to Bluffton, and the Lowcountry’s scenery left an impression on him. The direction of his artwork was changed as he drove across a bridge while a light rain fell.

Sandy Rhodes

Sandy Rhodes has experimented in most mediums, but in recent years has returned to her favorite oil paints. Her early artwork was extremely detailed and technical, but Sandy has come to enjoy Impressionism, which allows her to make powerful statements with texture and color. As far as subject matter, just about anything goes — except portraits. With 12 hunting dogs, four horses and a veterinarian in the family, it’s no surprise that Sandy’s preferred subject matter is animals — especially dogs. The May River also is a great source of inspiration for her. Sandy paints on canvas mostly, but not always. She loves to work on wall murals, large divider screens and more.

Marian Sanders

Marian Sanders is an oil painter who is inspired by the Lowcountry — painting landscapes, still life, birds and pets. Her paintings are on exhibit at Brick Wall Gallery in Beaufort SC and in Bluffton SC. Marian studied art with Daniel Edmondson at his studio in Denver, Colorado.

Pete Schramm

Photography is a lifelong passion. I learn by taking and analyzing photos without the constraints of formal theory, believing that learning and understanding creativity is an intuitive process. This self-learning and exploring method keeps my work original and of more interest to me.My range is substantial, covering still life, nature, abstract and urban landscapes. Abstract images interest me as long as their roots are natural.In the end, photography for me is just an excuse to get to know the world and share my art with others.

Murray Sease

My name is Murray Sease. I am a painter, illustrator and designer. I am inspired by the amazing world around me. I try to capture it on my canvas in a colorful and lively style.

Margi Smith

Painting is an intuitive process for me. Color and form appear and take shape as the process unfolds. Being unafraid of the messy middle allows the painting to take on a life of its own, living on in the canvas, telling the story again in new ways to its viewers. I have a minor in studio art from Skidmore College, attended Squam Art Workshops and online classes to find my creative tribe. I have a studio in Topsfield, MA and in Bluffton, SC. In 2021, I joined SOBA Gallery in Bluffton where I currently show and sell my work.

Marianne Stillwagon

Marianne Stillwagon has a B.S. in Design and began her career as a freelance graphic designer. She gravitated to painting, her first love, in 1980. Marianne has a studio in Hillsborough Center, N.H. and also one in Hardeeville, S.C. She is an exhibiting member of NH Art Association, Society of Bluffton Artists, National Association of Women Artists and Monadnock Area Artists. Marianne has exhibited in numerous shows across the country over the years and her work is in many private collections in the US and abroad.

Bill Winn

Bill’s watercolors, acrylics, oils and pastels depict vignettes of the land, sea, cities and people that he captures as a moment in time. His work has been influenced by Andrew Wyeth and more recently by Morton Solberg, Jim Lewis and Rusty Jones. He was privately instructed by Katie Kolesky and Norrie Parks and holds an MS degree in Medical Illustration. Bill is currently represented by La Petite Gallerie and the SoBA Gallery in Bluffton, SC, and the Art League of Hilton Head Gallery on the island.

Sheryl Winn

Sheryl has been a student of ceramics for many years, studying with clay artists in Texas and Georgia. Her hand-constructed ceramics are reflective of the forests, shorelines, and towns of the Low Country. Her work fuses natural elements such as Spanish moss with stoneware creating dramatic yet functional three-dimensional pieces. Sheryl’s constructions are in private collections throughout the US and can be seen in the SoBA and Pluff Mudd Art Galleries in Bluffton, SC, and in the Telfair Jepson Center Museum Store in Savanna, GA.
