Lynn Newsom spent her childhood drawing on her father’s computer paper. She majored in art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was forced to create huge abstracts but never a tree or a flower. After 35 years of teaching art in Charles County Maryland; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Charlotte, North Carolina; she can finally paint trees and flowers to her heart’s content. However, she has recently rediscovered the freedom of abstract painting thanks to a class at SOBA.
