“There are no rules. That is how art is born, how breakthroughs happen. Go against the rules or ignore the rules. That is what invention is about.” ~Helen Frankenthaler, American abstract expressionist, 1928-2011
In Missy’s class, students will learn that ABSTRACT ART has a will of its own. The paint will lead you where it needs to go. Students will flow instead of sticking to a rigid style or adhering to preconceived notions about abstract painting. Students will get caught off guard so new and beautiful experiences can happen. Whatever the medium, there is the difficulty, challenge and fascination of learning new methods with new materials. Taking deliberate risks and recognizing the good accidents. The intention is not to force the process. Abstract Art is not about making perfect copies of real life. It’s about form and color, it’s the artist drawing and painting how they feel. It’s not even about giving the impression of real life without all the little details. ABSTRACT ART is about the process itself. Let’s have fun!
