Instructor: Peggy Duncan
This is a class (run on the first 3 Saturdays in June) for those who are new to pastel or need a refresher course. It will consist of short demo by Peggy, followed by everyone painting from the still life set up or a photo of their OWN taking or one provided by the instructor to work on. We will discuss different surfaces, preparing our own pastel surface (materials and supplies provided), types of underpainting, different types of pastel sticks and their uses, and some framing techniques for your pastel paintings.
Students should have a basic grasp of drawing, a set of at least 24 pastel sticks of adecent quality (NUPastel, or Rembrants are good), paper towels, Wet Ones(for cleaning pastel from hands), apron& gloves if wanted, wax paper to wrap your pastel while transporting. Any photos of your own that you might like to paint from if not using the still life
set up. No copies of magazine pics, other artists.
The class will run from 10am until 1 pm with a 30 minute break for lunch or snack (please bring with). A minimum of 5 students is required for the class to fill, a maximum of 8 is preferred for individual instruction.
Peggy has been painting in soft pastel for over 25 years and is a Signature Member of the Southeastern Pastel Society, an exhibiting member of the Appalachian Pastel Society, founding member of SoBA and founding member of Pluff Mudd Gallery. She has had her work accepted in over 40 regional and National shows and has been a workshop teacher in NC, TN and SC.
