Kim France grew up just outside of Manhattan in Montclair, New Jersey. She graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Education. After working in Madison Avenue advertising and teaching in the state of Mississippi, Kim devoted a block of years to raising her young children.
In the early 1990’s, while living in North Carolina, a series of events launched a new career for Kim in interior design. She continued that career in Ohio where she and her husband opened several furniture and interior design stores in the Cincinnati area. Over 18 years, though unaware of it at the time, Kim was sharpening her eye for color and composition with every design project she took on. Learning about tone, hue, balance, intensity, and focal points were all lessons that easily translated into painting for Kim.
After her last child went off to college, Kim relocated to Hilton Head Island to be near her mother and the love of her life…..the ocean. For the first time, Kim had something very precious……TIME….time to think….time to be patient…time to PAINT! Mostly self taught (with help from the abundance of generous talent in the Lowcountry) Kim paints small scenes, micro moments in time, and images that are designed to move the observer into dreaming…..dreaming of their own “happy place”. “I feel I have succeeded when someone says ‘I’d just like to step into it!’ That is what has always motivated me to buy art for myself in France and Italy….So, my goal is to depict a small corner of the earth that the observer wants to always remember.”
Kim France lives in Bluffton, South Carolina with her two devoted dogs who snooze away the hours at the foot of her easel.
